For websites that collect data from users (for ex: site registration) and/or for sites that provide a service, there are 2 major legal documents to be used: "Terms of Service" and "Privacy Policy".

They simply show the users "how their data will be used" and "rights of both sides regarding the usage of the service".

Termsfeed is a free and web-based application for generating "Terms of Service" and "Privacy Policy" documents on-the-fly.

Termsfeed

You simply mention few variables like the company name, URL, etc. and get the output as a well-formatted HTML.

The documents created covers the most common stuff, you may want to customize it for you needs but they are a good starting point.

Also, optionally, Termsfeed can notify you when an update happens to the documents.

  • When browsing a web page, there are usually many 3rd party scripts (analytics apps, ad networks, widgets, font services, etc.) that add a cookie to our computers and "can" track us.

With the increasing importance of "privacy" on the web, Collusion, an experimental add-on by Mozilla, aims to increase user awareness and can help us see + analyze "who is tracking us".

Once installed, it sits in the add-on bar and, when clicked, displays the services that are tracking you. The great part is, it creates the tracking relations for all the web pages browsed which is so good to better understand "what type of personal info is being given away".

As the add-on gets developed, it'll also enable us to decide when, how and if we want to be tracked (you'll remember that there are more extraordinary actions for that).

For any website or business who collects data from visitors/customers, a privacy policy is must to disclose how the data will be used.

GeneratePrivacyPolicy.com is a free online service which eases creating one quickly.

    Generate Privacy Policy

It asks several questions from the name of the business and URL to the type of data collected (and why they are collected). Once all details are mentioned, it generates a professional policy instantly.

The service requires registration (free) and can list any previously created privacy policies for managing them better.
