HackingUI, a website focused on interaction and front-end design, is sharing a handy script for SVG fans.

It is a Photoshop script that automates the exporting of Photoshop layers to SVG.

Photoshop to SVG

The script is smart enough to detect only the right layers and searches for the layer names that end with ,svg.

Simply, no more going through each layer one-by-one for the conversion and all work is done in a single click.

10 years ago, icons were all about 3D and being colorful. Then the Web 2.0 effect came and shininess is added.

Right now, it is all about flat icons and, Flaticon, a website that enables us to search them quickly is pretty handy.

There are icon sets created by the developers (Freepik, which is a creative resources search engine) and also by other designers.

Flaticon Photoshop Plugin

It is possible to make a single icon search or browse them in categories or sets.

Flaticon now has a free Photoshop extension that makes searching simpler, right in the image editor we always use.

Using the extension, we don’t have to leave Photoshop and can find the icon + get it inside the canvas quickly.

Long shadow effects became very popular with the flat design trend and a new solution pop-ups each day to simplify creating them.

A free Photoshop extension, Long Shadows Generator, is probably the best solution for Photoshop users.

It is pretty straightforward, just apply the shadow length, opacity, angle and set the opacity. It is all ready.

Let’s say, you created the layout and getting prepared to export all the layers for front-end coding. This would take so much time if done manually.

For Photoshop, there are some built-in methods (like an export script). However, Breezy, a free Photoshop extension handles this process nicer.

You can select the layers to be exported and they will be ready very quickly (with the layer names, transparencies, etc.) inside a pre-defined folder.

BlendMeIn is a free Photoshop extension to search for icons, vectors and other design resources right inside Photoshop.

Once you reached a specific resource, it can be drag ‘n’ dropped into the current composition which is a time-saver.

It is available as CS6 + CC extensions and, if you created similar design resources, you can contact them for addition too.

Update (17 Nov 2013): There is now a n Illustrator version of the extension too.
