Sharrre is a jQuery plugin that eases creating social sharing widgets for Facebook,Twitter, Google Plus, Digg and Delicious.

The plugin calls the social buttons on demand which is great for minimizing the number of initial requests and improving loading speeds.

Sharrre jQuery Plugin

Any type of custom designs can be created for the widgets (no need to use the default buttons provided by the social networks) and events(like, +1, tweet, etc.) can be fired up with the plugin's API calls.

P.S. Google Plus widget requires PHP to work (the PHP file is already included in the package).

Web pages usually display multiple widgets of different networks (like Facebook Like, Tweet button, etc.) for social sharing.

ShareCount is an open source script that collects the number of sharing activities in a single counter.

The counter sums up the number of sharings of an URL in Twitter, Facebook, Digg and Delicious.

Also, it saves space by providing the ability use each social network's widget from the same button (that nicely toggles on hover).

The code of the script is pretty straightforward and it is easy to define new services.

OpenLike is a fresh and open source social bookmarking widget which is simple-yet-functional.

Similar to professional services like AddThis or ShareThis, but much simpler, you can add social bookmarking options to any website by simply inserting a JavaScript file.

OpenLike

By default, the widget supports StumbleUpon, Reddit, Digg, Google Buzz, Twitter, Facebook Like and Hutch (the ones to be displayed can be customized).

However, as you can get the source, adding new ones is very easy by simply defining them to the JavaScript array, the CSS file and the sprite image.

You can create mash-ups to create stories from these data or just use the application for building a website that reflects your online social life.

Storytlr comes with ready to use themes and new ones can be created with HTML/CSS.

The application is built with PHP and uses MySQL as the database.

First of all, sorry that WRD had a downtime (around 8 hours) yesterday.

The post: 27 Adobe AIR Applications – Handy For Web Designers got pretty popular in most of the social-bookmarking / voting websites. I realized that the website was getting slower & about to take action on it. Then the post moved to frontpage at digg.com & I was not able to reach to server anymore.

Page Display Error

As the server was not responding, rebooted from the power-strip several times, got ping results but after sometime, reboots weren’t pinging.

Thanks to the hosting company that they reached the server & told that the server was not able to boot because of corrupt system file errors (confirmed via KVM).

A fresh OS is installed & they added the previous harddisk as a secondary one so I could get the data.

After setting up the server, here it is, WRD is back online.

Lessons learned:

  • Don’t underestimate the digg effect, it is really strong.
  • Don’t reboot a server via power-strip (several times).
  • Backup frequently (I’m good at this from past experiences).
  • Apply all of your own tips.
  • And maybe it is because the server is Windows, think about that.. : )

Hope that this post may help you to stay online.
