We are using Liferay in few our websites:

1. Communities - great solution - many different sites using one Liferay instance. So it's not that heavy as one says.
2. It's still buggy. I'm waiting for 5.3 hoping for some fixes.
3. Portlet approach is good because it's very flexible and bad because development meets many limitations.
4. Staging (development version of your website) is very convenient and it's easy for user's with no technical background and want only to update site.
5. There is almost no documentation. You can buy it of course, with support €10,000 only ;-).

It's a nice portal but still unstable. If bundled portlets are suitable for you and Java is familiar to you I say go for it.

I am very interested in this application, but i cannot load the demo. The systeem keeps initializing.
So if i read the comment of Ruben Alves, i think that this application is really heavy and maybe only suitable for the largest corporations.

Someone else have some experience with liferay?

I sorry to disagree with you, but Liferay is far away a CMS I'll try to sell to someone.
First of all, is Java! Very, but very heavy, it load any kind of servers in a brutal way.
Second, implementation: not easy to code/understand (maybe I'm dumb... But I've been programming in PHP for 6 years, and I never seen a so strange way to code a webpage)
Third: Documentation! SO BAD, so poor! The current version is 5.1.2, and the only documentation available is from a old 2006/2007 4.x.x version... No Liferay is definitively a true nightmare for coders and sysadmins.
More... You can DoS any liferay website with a simple AB!
Resuming: forget liferay for a simple website with special needs. Liferay is good for big corporation working in a cluster of servers only for intranet use...
