Easy IE Debugging For Websites: Expression Web SuperPreview

Sep
Expression Web SuperPreview is a visual application for debugging a website in multiple IE versions easily.
It can display a website in IE6, IE7 or IE8 side by side or as an onion-skin overlay and use rulers, guides and zoom/pan tools to precisely identify differences in layout.
Besides debugging how it is rendered in means of the look, the application also identifies the element’s:
- tag
- size and position
- applied styles
- location in the DOM (Document Object Model) treeso you can quickly fix the errors
P.S. It requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 to run.
Requirements: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1

WOW … MS finally did something useful … maybe bye bye IETester?
I will definitely give it a try!
if only there’s something like that for the mac.
That’s awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Very cool in concept – excellent to have a side-by-side preview. It kinda falls short after that. You cannot even see how a mouse over event works between browsers, so I challenge the term ‘preview’. It is more of a screen scrape rather than anything else.
Microsoft – let’s see how you do with version 4…
looks awesome! anyone willing to share their experience with it?
The only weak thing about this is that you can’t actually interact with the pages. So, rule out testing pages within an authenticated layer and testing JavaScript responses. This could have good application for straight HTML/CSS prototyping, but VMs and/or IETester are still the best solutions.
It’s worth mentioning that you can only preview IE7 OR IE8, depending on which one you have installed. If you have IE8 installed, you can’t view IE7, you can only view IE8’s quirks mode.
Ehh, I guess it’s better than nothing, as IE Tester is really a pain to get working on Windows 7.
Thanks for the post!
Its definitely an interesting program. I have been using Dreamweaver for quite awhile and have been reluctant to try anything new. Has anyone used the product and have had good experiences with it.
Expression Web definitely sounds like an improvement over Frontpage.
Expression SuperPreview is quite powerful, and here is another introduction, http://jack-fx.com/csharp/post/expression-web-superpreview.htm
This has to be the best thing ever, well done Microsoft. Often we have to struggle with Multiple IEs and test test test. This makes life so much easier and effective as quicker testing means better quality.
