Colllor is a free-to-use web application that helps us to create a more consistent color scheme.

For any given color, the app displays the exact value of darker shades of it (not something that looks darker but the ones that derive from the same color where all have a common denominator sharing hue, lightness or saturation values).

Colllor

Using Colllor, we can easily explore tints, shades, tones or similar colors and mix colors to create new ones.

It understands both the HEX values and color names. Also, you can instantly pass the color name to the URL (like http://colllor.com/blue) to get started quickly.

P.S. There is also a Chrome application for it.

  • When designing anything with content (websites, brochures, etc.), if you don't have the real content, using Lorem Ipsum is the most common way to fill those spaces.

However, for anyone who designs regularly and needs such filler text, it is pretty boring to use Lorem Ipsum again and again.

If you want to try an alternative to Lorem Ipsum, there are several web-based generators which are easy-to-use, customizable and, usually, fun. Check them out:

P.S. If you also want to complement placeholder text with images, I suggest checking 8 Free Placeholder Image Services For Instant Dummy Images.

    Bacon Ipsum

    Bacon Ipsum

A meaty alternative for generating dummy text. It is even kind enough to ask for "all meat" or "meat and filler".

The service has a JSON API, an Android app and a supportive image placeholder service for generating a mockup full of bacon.

    Vegan Ipsum

    Vegan Ipsum

Didn't like Bacon Ipsum? Ok, here is veggie lorem ipsum alternative.

Vegan Ipsum will bring all the freshness of season vegetables into your mockups.

    Samuel L. Ipsum

    Samuel L. Ipsum

It uses quotes from movies which Samuel L Jackson has starred in and comes with 3 modes, lorem ipsum, default and a lite version.

This is a dangerous alternative to lorem ipsum: So, please use responsibly.

The CSS3 Test is a web-based test suite for finding out which CSS3 properties are supported by the browser being used.

It checks many features like backgrounds/borders, transitions, media queries, fonts, animations and much more.

Multiple testcases are ran on each element and this can be displayed by simply clicking to items.

The application is a must-bookmark to quickly check the issues on each property for shaping our styles accordingly.

    CSS3 Test

When creating/designing a web page, we either start with the HTML, build the structure and style it later or style-while-structuring.

If you design with the 1st approach and bored of creating a CSS file with copy-pasting all those class + id names, here is a quick solution:

Bear CSS is a free-to-use web application that generates a stylesheet with all the elements, ids and classes from a given HTML file.

The app is mostly useful for projects with a pretty long HTML and it would be better if Bear CSS had asked which items to include inside the stylesheet just after the upload -feature request : )-.

    Bear CSS

HTML5 Please is an interactive compatibility chart of HTML5/CSS3 features to find out "in which browsers they are supported (or not)".

Using a smart search bar, it is possible to filter the results with browser or device support, type (HTML5 or CSS3 elements/properties) and more.

Every item is described shortly and an opinion on whether they should be used with fallbacks or polyfills (with links to them) are shared.

The site is simply a must-bookmark for anyone designing with the new web technologies and need a guide for quickly checking the support for each property/element.
