This team collaboration application can be reached both from the browsers and from a desktop application.

The strongest part of the application is document management.  It uses Subversion for document versioning and backup, supports file syncronization, collaborative editing and has notification system for the updates made within the documents.

Task Management

Mindquarry has a handy task management module where tasks can be created, assigned to users, priority levels and their status can be set.

Task Management

To mention, this is not a project management module and does not have milestones, resources, costs or chart features. It simply allows users to assign and control tasks (for a chance to win a great project management software license check the OneProject Project 8 giveaway).

Conclusion

If you are working in teams, need to share and work on documents together I believe Mindquarry can be a perfect fit as you will be able to:

  • Work on the same docs, have them versionned and backed up.
  • Create your own information or idea libraries with the wiki feature.
  • Assign tasks to each other.

Application requires Apache, Java and Subversion to be installed. Desktop application has Windows, Mac and Linux versions which makes everything much better.

Tip: Mindquarry has a XAMPP download in the downloads section that automatically installs Apache, Subversion and Perl to prepare the application environment.

Free document management software is something really hard to find.

Epiware (thanks Jim for the suggestion) is an open source document management solution built with PHP & MySQL.

In a business environment, such a document management system is very helpful as it makes all documents reachable for everyone and keeps the versions of the documents which is a great feature if there are many people editing the same document.

Free Document Management Software

It has many attractive features like:

  • Manage multiple projects

  • WIKI
  • Tasking/Gantt Chart

Adobe AIR, as it is no longer beta, will be more popular for sure.

I had collected 10 Adobe AIR -Must See- Applications in a previous post which contained really cool applications.

Klok is another great Adobe AIR application which is built for personal time tracking. Projects, sub-projects (tasks) can be defined and can be attached to a customer. You can even make a "start & stop" to calculate the time of the task you worked on and Klok automatically adds it to the timetable.

Adobe AIR Time Track

Klok's UI works with the drag'n drop logic in general. You can send the items to the trash, manage the timetable and the projects hierarchy easily with dragging and dropping the items.

Klok is a very handy and easy to use application for freelancers & other individuals who want to keep track the time of tasks and projects they are working on.
