Ofuz is an open source application (also comes as a paid/hosted service) that aims to control the full business cycle for teams, freelancers or service providers.

It has powerful contact management features as contacts can be imported from almost anywhere, Twitter, Facebook, Gmail, etc.

Contacts can be categorized with tags and notes or e-mails can be attached to them.

Ofuz

Team members and/or customers can be invited to share files and emails, join discussions and get things done.

The time worked on projects can be tracked and timesheets/reports per customer/project/team member can be generated.

Ofuz also enables you to create invoices that will be sent for once or every selected period automatically (recurring).

And, with the web forms feature, you can grab leads from your website + send personalized mailings to your users.

The application is multilingual, has a REST API to integrate with any other tool and built with PHP/MySQL.

phpLD, a popular directory application, is giving away 3 Unbranded Licenses ($80/each) to WebResourcesDepot readers. Details on joining the giveaway can be found at the bottom of the post. But before that:

What is phpLD?

At some point, most of the web designers/developers need to create a directory for a project. Whether it is a directory of products, branches of a business, employees of a large firm, etc.

phpLD can be a solution for that (or, it can be used to create a totally standalone website). It is a PHP application for creating any type of directories, from small to large with unlimited categories and sub-categories.

PHP Link Directory

The application is very flexible with custom fields support or ready-to-use widgets like site-translator, latest tweets picker, ad-rotator and more.

It is also a multilingual tool where users can contribute to the content by submitting links or articles and comment to them.

A feature-rich administrator panel helps managing the whole site (categories, users, content, etc.).

There is a built-in PayPal-based payment system for the ability to offer "featured links".

phpLD has various templates and a new template can be created from scratch pretty quickly as it uses the Smarty templating engine.

How to join the giveaway?

It is enough to comment to this post and winners will be selected randomly with the query below on 29th of September 2010 (2 weeks later):

SELECT * FROM wp_comments WHERE comment_post_id=1843 AND comment_approved=1 AND comment_type='' GROUP BY comment_author_email ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 3

Good luck to all.

Whether it is a website for a customer, a web application or a software, it is always a good idea to write down the list of bugs.

It simply helps us not to forget any of them and analyze the process better (the time they require, better listing and solving them according to priorities, etc.).

Previously published WRD post: 9 Free And Open Source Bug Tracking Softwares is featuring very handy resources for managing the issues better. And, here is a new one:

WordPress Quality Control Theme

Quality Control is a free WordPress theme that functions as a bug or ticket tracking system.

It allows users to submit new requests and track the process on them easily.

The theme places requests under categories, displays them according to their priority and shows the latest activities.

Quality Control calls itself as a "base framework" for bug tracking as it is flexible and open to every improvement.

LABjs (loading and blocking JavaScript) is an on-demand JavaScript loader, capable of loading any JavaScript resource, from any location, into any page, at any time.

By default, the library helps loading all scripts in parallel (it is possible to define priorities) which is a great speed improvement that we usually see with asynchronous scripts.

LABjs

It works by removing the commonly-used <script> tags and calling every script from a LABjs function with the parameters wanted.

It is a must-try, specially for the websites that use many script tags for a better performance.

Today, it is hard to think of a web project that we don't use <script> tags; JS frameworks, libraries to fix browser incompabilities, etc.

ScriptSrc.net is a website which makes including script tags of popular libraries easy.

ScriptSrc

By simply clicking to the "copy" link, you're ready to paste the script tag for the selected library (which is hosted on Google).

It also displays the versions provided so, if wanted, you can update the URL accordingly.

Nothing fancy, but simple and useful.

"Sharing the content without actually hosting it" is usually pretty easy with the special embed links offered by the sources themselves.

On the other hand, every service has a different code which makes it a challenge if you're embedding from multiple sources.

Embedly

Embedly is a free API service which can embed from 100+ content sources with a single API.

Within a single call, it can include single or multiple URLs and supports video, images or rich HTML.

The service uses the oEmbed spec., has code samples for various languages and a plugin for WordPress.

JavaScript, by its nature, doesn't have support for "classes" like other scripting languages.

For any developer who frequently uses classes, Class.js can be a very functional resource to help you "think of the code" how you used to.

With under 1kb of code, it provides a basic class structure which can be easily extended with built-in methods like Extend() or Merge() and the plugin support.

Class.js

A/B Testing is a great way for finding the better performing version of text, layouts, images, colors or any other element. in a website.

phpA/B is a free PHP script that enables you to setup A/B tests on your website so quickly.

It integrates automatically into your Google Analytics, allowing deeper insight into your tests’ impact on users.

phpA/B

The script can be run in trial mode to find out if the variations are working completely and, if it is, can be switched to live mode.

phpA/B also automatically filters search engine bots out of your tests to keep the data clean.

P.S. More on A/B Testing on Wikipedia.

BBYIDX is an open source application, written with Ruby, for collecting ideas of users on specific subjects.

Actually, it is built and supported by Best Buy and also the basis behind the Best Buy IdeaX.

It enables users to post, tag, comment and vote on ideas which is a great way of mixing your community with the development flow.

BBYIDX

Besides single ideas, categories (currents) can be created to collect a set of ideas about a specific subject.

Admins can moderate incoming ideas and comments as well as assign work-flow to certain ideas for further exploration.

The application comes with a read-write API for reaching it via a 3rd party application.

Status pages like Apps Status of Google or AWS Service Health Dashboard help users of a service a lot to find out if there are any problems with the service or not.

Stashboard is an open source status dashboard for cloud service and APIs that enables you to inform the users about the status of your service.

Stashboard

It is built with Python, runs on the Google App Engine and can track multiple different API or SaaS services.

The application can display the logs for each service and a REST API makes it possible to integrate easily with other tools.
