2 Open Source Tools To Crowdsource & Visualize Information – Ushahidi And SwiftRiver
Ushahidi, a non-profit tech company, is sharing 2 open source platforms for information collection and visualization: Ushahidi and SwiftRiver.
Ushahidi Platform
The application allows anyone to submit information through multiple channels including text messaging using a mobile phone, email or web form.
This collected data is displayed in an interactive map in real-time.
Reports can be tracked on the map and over time. You can filter your data by time and then see when and where things happened.
SwiftRiver Platform
The application enables the filtering and verification of real-time data from channels like Twitter, SMS, Email and RSS feeds. Just like an like an open source Yahoo Pipes.
You can setup streams that search for mentions of your brand or product online and manage social media campaigns (e.g. Twitter, SMS, email) from a single dashboard.
It also helps users to discover nascent relationships and trends in data sets that may appear to be unrelated.
Both applications are built with PHP and require MySQL for storing data.

having a very hard time getting SwiftRiver to run correctly on a shared host server. Maybe I will need to go back and re-read if it needs to be on full server. The no real setup text either.
Nope, Daypush. I’m having the same problem, errors everywhere and lack of proper documentation. They both look cool, but worthless.
I’ve wasted about 2 hours to make each one work, nothing happened. I’ve managed to install but that was all. The index.php showed up just creepy.
Pass.
